Shoppers in downtown Salt Lake City's The Gateway may be forgiven if they thought the calendar was amiss today.
Christmas decorations (like those above) were abundant in the shopping center's south end. The mall isn't getting a jump on the holiday shopping season -- only 275 days 'til Xmas -- but is playing host to a TV-movie shooting in town this week.
The movie, listed on placards in the mall as "Guide to Life," is an expansion of the Disney Channel sitcom "Good Luck Charlie," in which a Denver teen, Teddy Duncan (Bridgit Mendler), creates a video diary dispensing wisdom to her baby sister Charlotte, a k a Charlie.
The movie, set to air on the Disney Channel in December, puts the Duncans on a wacky road trip from Denver to Palm Springs to visit grandparents. The trip takes the family through Utah, Las Vegas and an encounter with a whacked-out couple from Roswell, N.Mex.
The Tribune's Scott D. Pierce visited one of the movie's sets on Wednesday: The Salt Palace, which was temporarily transformed into the Palm Springs airport.
