Orange County WR/FS George Wilson announces commitment to Utes

Orange County wide receiver/free safety George Wilson announced Sunday that he has verbally committed to Utah.

Wilson, the 10th 2015 Utah commit that The Tribune currently knows of, told The Tribune by phone Sunday that he has been recruited by quarterbacks coach Aaron Roderick and that he first received an offer about a month ago. Wilson said he also holds offers from UMass, Portland State and San Jose State.

Utah holds the edge right now, he said, because of its Pac-12 membership and Wilson’s relationship with Roderick, but "I’m going to continue to look around and hear what other schools have to say."

The 6-foot-3, 180-pound Tustin High junior isn’t sure whether he’d be a free safety or wide receiver at the U., but recruiting coordinator Morgan Scalley told The Tribune last week that wide receiver would be an emphasis for this year’s class.

Wilson, who plans to study kinesiology, said he’s happy to play whatever will get him on the field the soonest.

Other commitments thus far include wideouts Brandon Snell, Donzale Roddie and Justice Murphy; athletes Michael Jacquet and Tuli Wily-Matagi; offensive linemen Jake Grant and Zach Lindsay; linebacker Cody Barton; and kicker Chayden Johnston.
