Walk-on guard Eris Winder joining the Runnin' Utes

Another walk-on will join the Runnin' Utes back court for the next year, and if the name sounds a little familiar, don't sweat it.

Eris Winder, a 6-foot-1 point guard from Las Vegas, is the newest Ute, according to a school news release. Winder is a multi-faceted guard who spent the last year playing for Elev8 Sports Institute on the post graduate roster.

He played his high school career at Palo Verde High, averaging 17.3 points, 5.8 assists, 3.3 rebounds and 2.5 steals per game. Although he's thin framed, the Utes like his length and quickness. A quick glance at the highlight tape above shows his on-court nimbleness and vision as well as some of his scoring ability.

"Eris is a welcome addition to our team for the upcoming season," coach Larry Krystkowiak said in the release. "He brings a competitive spirit along with a hard-working attitude and exemplifies what we look for in a student-athlete here at Utah."

Eris Winder is the cousin of BYU guard Anson Winder, who has been a role player for the Cougars for the last few years. Although Eris Winder may not see the court next year behind Utah's talented scholarship guards, it adds a little spice to what already is a fun rivalry.

Winder is the third walk-on guard on the Utes roster at the moment, joining Austin Eastman and Jake Connor. He's the 15th player on next fall's roster.
