It would seem remiss not to start out this week's wrap with one of the discussions going on university wide: The U. struck an accord with the Ute tribe to keep using the Utes as the school mascot and further cementing its use of the drum-and-feather - or circle-and-feather, as the university likes to say - logo. Expect at least one football game in November when the football team will wear a special jersey to honor the tribe.

For a few sports, this week marked a final flurry of activity. Football goes into summer workouts starting next week, while gymnastics is wrapping up its season today. But spring sports are still in swing, and we break it all down:

GYMNASTICS • The Utes came in as a favorite to compete for the title, but couldn't make the cut into Saturday's Super Six when they stumbled on the vault with the lowest score of the year on that rotation. The season ended Sunday with Georgia Dabritz finishing 9th invidually on vault, while Becky Tutka and Nancy Damianova finished 11th and 13th on floor routines respectively. It was a disappointing finish for a team that had another strong season.

ON DECK: Season over.

FOOTBALL • The Utes wrapped up spring on Saturday with the annual Red-White game. Despite missing most of the team's stars, there were highlights from running back Devontae Booker and Dominque Hatfield, among other offensive playmakers. Much of the defense was on the shelf either recovering from injury or to prevent it. Utah still has much to do this offseason, including evaluating the quarterbacks, determining offensive line starters, getting the running back rotation worked out, and getting its linebackers and secondary healthy.

ON DECK: Spring ball over.

MEN'S BASKETBALL • A small news item this week out of the Runnin' Utes: The team has scheduled a game for the 2014-15 season against Wichita State at the Huntsman Center, and will complete the home-and-home series in 2015-16. It adds some punch to Utah's non-conference schedule, which some have described as lackluster in recent years.

ON DECK: Season over.

BASEBALL • With a series on the line, Utah (12-23, 3-15) couldn't knock out visiting UCLA, falling in a 7-3 finale on Saturday afternoon. The Utes managed to notch one victory over the defending national champs, getting the coup on the strength of 16 hits in a comeback win. It's only the Utes' third conference win of the season. They'll get a break from the rigors of the Pac-12 with UVU and out-of-state foe Nevada this week, the second-place team in the Mountain West.

ON DECK: at UVU (6 p.m. Tuesday); vs. Nevada (6 p.m. Friday, 1 p.m. doubleheader Saturday, noon Sunday)

SOFTBALL • The Utes (20-20, 5-12) got to .500 this week thanks to a doubleheader sweep of UVU and a series win over Stanford. The team only fell one run short of going 5-for-5 for the week in the series finale. Offense was a strength: The group scored eight runs or more in four of the games, and the week featured two grand slams. Junior Kate Dickman has a 10-game hitting streak going into this week's series against UVU, SUU and Arizona.

ON DECK: vs. UVU (5 p.m. Monday doubleheader); vs. SUU (4 p.m. Tuesday doubleheader); at Arizona (6 p.m. Friday and Saturday, noon Saturday)

MEN'S TENNIS • A visit to Arizona resulted in a loss for the Utes (14-8, 2-5), who were upset by the Wildcats. The one bright spot was Matt Cowley, who won both his singles and doubles matches. Utah will try to make it up by surprising next week in the Pac-12 championships.

ON DECK: Pac-12 championships (Wednesday, Thursday, Friday, Saturday in Ojai, Calif.)

WOMEN'S TENNIS • The Utes (12-9, 3-7) won their first Pac-12 match-up in more than a month, topping Colorado 4-1 at home on Senior Day. Tereza Bekerova won both her No. 1 singles and doubles matches to lead The U. Utah remains in the bottom half of the Pac-12 standings headed into this week's conference championships.

ON DECK: Pac-12 championships (Friday, Saturday, Sunday in Ojai, Calif.)

GOLF • In the final week of the regular season, the Utes finished eighth out of 10 teams in Santa Barbara. Casey Halliday finished No. 2 among individuals, his best result of the season, thanks to a second-round 68. Jonathan Thomas was four strokes behind Halliday, earning 11th place in the tournament. Utah will try to best its conference competition in Arizona this week.

ON DECK: Pac-12 championships (Friday, Saturday, Sunday in Marana, Ariz. at Gallery Golf Club)

WOMEN'S TRACK AND FIELD • The Mt. Sac relays saw some school records fall: Susannah Hurst bested the program's best in the 5000, while Alissa Atisme notched a 12.03 in the 100-meter dash to set a new record. In the 400-meter hurdles, Rosalie Waller, Rhianna Williams and Ali Eisenbess went 3-4-5 in the event at the Beach Invitational. Two meets on the horizon this week as the Utes try to improve in the latter half of the year.

ON DECK: Drake Relays (Friday and Saturday in Des Moines, Iowa); Robinson Invitational (Friday and Saturday in Provo)

WOMEN'S SOCCER • It was a fruitful trip to Grand Junction, as the Utes got a 1-0 decision over the Pioneers to end the spring. It was an even exhibition season for The U., with a 3-3-1 record.

ON DECK: Spring season over.
