GYMNASTICS • Utah sat third after two rotations in Fayetteville, Ark., on Saturday, but snatched the lead with a 49.525 on floor and landed the school's 28th regional title. Next the No. 5 Red Rocks will go hunting for an elusive 11th national championship banner. For that, they'll first need to beat three out of No. 1 Florida, No. 4 Alabama, No. 8 UCLA, No. 9 Nebraska and No. 15 Penn State to advance to the Super Six after last year missing the cut for the first time since 1999.

FOOTBALL • Junior quarterback Travis Wilson threw five touchdown passes in just 21 attempts and the Ute offense appeared formidable at Friday's scrimmage — albeit against a Ute defense that was without as many as seven potential starters. Six practices remain before players and coaches go their separate ways for three months.

MEN'S BASKETBALL • He's taken the Runnin' Utes from 6-25 to 21-12, and third-year head coach Larry Krystkowiak agreed to terms on a new five-year contract that would allow him to finish what he's started in Salt Lake City. Sources had told The Tribune's Tony Jones that Cal contacted Krystkowiak after the retirement of coach Mike Montgomery.

BASEBALL • The Utes snapped their nine-game Pac-12 skid but still dropped two out of three at Smith's Ballpark this weekend against Arizona. Now 10-19 overall and 1-11 in the Pac-12, Utah will try to gain some momentum next weekend at .500 USC to carry into the following weekend's three-game home series with No. 17 UCLA.

SOFTBALL • Oregon State's four-run fourth inning in Sunday's finale prevented a Ute sweep, but junior left fielder Kate Dickman's 3-for-3 performance Friday helped the home team (14-16 overall, 3-8 Pac-12) end a streak of six consecutive losses to Pac-12 opponents. The Utes will play five this week, with a doubleheader against Weber State to tune up for No. 14 Arizona State.

MEN'S TENNIS • The No. 58 Utes (14-5, 2-2 Pac-12) scored an in-conference upset by beating No. 27 Oregon 4-2 in Eugene on Friday and followed that up with another Pac-12 road victory against Washington. After beating the Ducks, assistant coach Roeland Brateanu said in a news release that the win "put ourselves back in the hunt for a spot in the NCAA tournament."

WOMEN'S TENNIS • No. 30 Utah swept Montana on Wednesday but was on the other end of the broom Friday in Tucson, Ariz., when No. 35 Arizona battered the U. 7-0. The Utes lost again Saturday in Tempe to No. 23 Arizona State, 4-2.

WOMEN'S TRACK AND FIELD • Junior Rebekah Winterton was recovering from a viral infection but still finished the 5,000 meters in a new school record time of 16:08.24 at the Stanford Invitational.
