Utah's fifth-ranked gymnastics team will be short-handed for its opener against No. 2 UCLA tonight with sophomore Kassandra Lopez sitting out the meet due to a lower leg muscle strain. Lopez was scheduled to compete on three events. Sophomore Becky Tutka is replacing Lopez on beam, Mary Beth Lofgren is taking her place on bars and Nansy Damianova is taking her place on the vault. Utah coach Greg Marsden said he didn't think the injury was serious. "We don't think it's torn or anything like that," he said. "The biggest thing is she was one of our proven ones, especially on the beam. Now instead of having three unknowns there we have four unknowns." In football, Utah junior kicker Nick Marsh and sophomore defensive back Terrell Reese have decided to transfer in order to seek more playing opportunities. Marsh averaged 62.7 yards per kickoff in 2012. Reese played in nine games and finished with seven tackles.
