Brandon Cox, a 6-foot-3, 200-pound quarterback out of Pasadena, Calif., committed to the Utes Sunday.
Cox, who originally committed to Arizona then visited Utah a week ago for the USC game, said he was sold on the Utah program after having a short conversation with Utah coach Kyle Whittingham and offensive coordinator Brian Johnson following Utah's loss at UCLA.
"I liked their loyalty," he said. "i was impressed with all the former Utes on the staff, that is big with me."
Cox is sidelined with a broken foot he sustained in the second game of the season but hopes to return before season's end.
This year his team is running a pro-style offense, a change from the spread it ran last year. Cox said he feels confident running either style at Utah.
"I liked the spread a little more, but I'm good with either one," he said.
Last year he was 151-for-249 as he threw for 2,697 yards and 26 touchdowns. He also rushed 96 times for 562 yards and eight touchdowns.
Cox, who was also being recruited by Iowa State, Maryland and Colorado, said his commitment was solid with the Utes.
He didn't see Utah's current offensive struggles as a negative.
"What impressed me more was the defense," he said. "They have a good defense and played hard and are a heck of a football team. It kind of made me want to go there more and add more spice to the offense. I think I can add to that aspect of the team."
Cox is the second quarterback to commit to the Utes for 2013. Connor Manning, a 6-2, 190-pound quarterback out of Lake Forest, Calif., committed to the Utes in July.
