Utah RB White ready to 'pound BYU'

The scene following Wednesday's practice was almost comical, apparently running back John White didn't know the frenzy his absence from Tuesday's practice caused.

White, who left the loss to Utah State momentarily with an injury, said he is 100 percent. The reason for his absence Tuesday was the need to work on a project for his history class with other students.

"Jesus, I miss one day of practice and they are all over it," he said of the worries.

He said no one was asking about his ankle on campus.

"Nobody knows me," he said.

While White didn't take any reps during the media observation period, he said he was 100 percent.

"I'm ready go to pound BYU and get these Cougars out of town," he said.

Utah coach Kyle Whittingham said it wasn't a setback for White to miss Tuesday's practice since the Utes had an extra day of preparation.

"He has graduation," he said. "That is why they are here."

If safety Eric Rowe can't play Saturday due to a hamstring injury, it appears sophomore Tyron Morris-Edwards will start in his place.

Utah coach Kyle Whittingham said Morris-Edwards was ahead of Terrell Reese, Michael Walker and Joseph Bryant.

"He has been steady, very consistent," he said. "He has made very few mistakes and you need to count on that and make sure you don't blow coverages and you are where you need to be."

As for the quarterback position, Jon Hays said he liked how the team was coming together.

"It was a good practice," he said. "We're getting a good gameplan together."
