Perhaps a bit lost in the discussion of whom the Utah football team will not play, was news of whom the basketball team will play.
Utah Athletic Director Chris Hill told reporters on Tuesday that the Utes will play a four-game series against Utah State, beginning in 2014.
A spokeswoman for Hill told The Tribune that Utah will trave to Logan in 2015 and 2017, while the Aggies will come to Salt Lake City and the Huntsman Center in 2014 and 2016. The programs have a solid agreement in place, the spokeswoman said, and are working on dates and finalizing a contract.
Utah State is the Utes' second-most played rival, behind BYU, of course. The Utes and Aggies have played 222 times (Utah leads the series 130-92) but not since 2010-2011, when the Aggies won 79-62 in Logan.
More hoops: Utes center David Foster was named Tuesday to the National Association of Basketball Coaches Honors Court, which recognizes player who excelled academically during the 2011-12 season.
Foster was sidelined for the season with a broken bone in his foot. However, he graduated in May with a degree in speech communications while maintaining a 3.28 GPA. Following foot surgery, he opted to redshirt what was then his senior year and return this season. He will pursue a master's degree in human development.
Foster, from Lake Forest, Calif., is Utah's all-time leader in blocked shots, with 219 blocks.
