The long-rumored Division I transfer the Utes coveted finally has a name.
Utah has signed Loyola Marymount guard Jarred DuBois. A 6-foot-3 combo guard, DuBois will gradaute from LMU this spring and be eligible to play immediately at Utah.
The Los Angeles native averaged 10.1 points per game last year for the Lions. He will enhance the depth at the guard positions, which already includes transfer Glen Dean, former LSU guard Aaron Dotson, and incoming freshmen Justin Seymour and Brandon Taylor.
"Jarred is a very talented guard that will bring a great skill set both offensively and defensively, along with a high level of experience and solid leadership skills," Utah coach Larry Krystkowiak said in a statement. "I feel strongly that he can be a difference maker not only on our team but within the Pac-12 as well."
DuBois averaged more than 10 points per game each of his three full seasons at LMU, including a career-best 13.5 points per game as a freshman in 2008-09. DuBois played four seasons with the Lions, but was granted a medical redshirt in 2010-11 after appearing in just six games.
The Utes are reshaping their roster after a 5-26 inaugural campaign in the Pac-12. Following the season, six players left the program, leaving Utah with just two scholarship contributors, Cedric Martin and Jason Washburn, returning.
The addition of DuBois leaves the Utes with one available scholarship for the upcoming season. The Tribune learned Monday that Utah hopes to use it on combo guard Dakarai Tucker, a 6-foot-5 playmaker out of Serra (Calif.) High School.
