Utah offensive coordinator Norm Chow has accepted Hawaii's offer to become its next head coach, agreeing to a 5-year deal worth $550,000 to $600,000 in base salary. Hawaii is expected to make an official announcement later today. One of the main concerns of Chow's departure was how it might affect Utah's recruiting. However, it hasn't hurt the Utes so far as Utah landed one of its most sought after players Wednesday with Kelvin York, a 6-foot, 220-pound running back out of Fullerton College signing a letter of intent Wednesday with the Utes. Originally thought to be headed to USC, the Trojans backed off York after he suffered a torn meniscus. As a result, York re-opened his recruiting and was being wooed by USC, Miami and Oregon. York, who rushed 229 times for 1,435 yards and 17 touchdowns last year, plans to enroll on Jan. 9. He was recruited by Utah wide receivers coach Aaron Roderick, who could be a candidate to replace Chow. "I felt most comfortable at Utah," York said. "Aaron is a great coach and he was real honest with me in the recruiting process and that is what pushed me for Utah." Utah's next recruiting challenge will be to convince Alexandru Ceachir, a 6-5, 300-pound lineman out of Santa Monica College, to uphold his commitment and sign with the Utes. Ceachir was recruited by Chow and is said to be wavering in his decision.
