Recruiting always brings its hits, misses and surprises. Well, let's play a little 'what if.' Washington sophomore quarterback Keith Price is one of the hottest quarterbacks in the nation. But did you know there was a good chance he could have been in a Utah uniform, not a Washington one? Price originally committed to Washington, but opened up his recruiting again when Washington went through a coaching change when Tyrone Willingham was fired in 2008. Price visited Oregon and was supposed to visit Utah, but the Utes stopped recruiting him when Jordan Wynn de-committed from Colorado and committed to the Utes. I dug up his quote about the situation from our archives: "Coaches told me they are considering bringing in two freshmen, but I haven't heard much since they got the other guy," he said. "That is Ok, I know how it goes and I understand." Whittingham was one of the coaches whose name was connected with the Washington job, which at the time Price said would be a perfect fit for him. "If that ended up happening, that would be perfect," he said. "I know he wanted me anyway and from everything I hear, he is a great guy. I know he is a winner." So the Utes missed on Price but have Wynn. I would have liked to have seen a preseason camp battle between the two quarterbacks to have seen who would have won out. You have to wonder what the Utes' offense might look like this year if Price had won that battle, particularly since Wynn still feels the effects of shoulder surgery. At least on Saturday we get to see them go head-to-head.
