Former Utah offensive lineman Zane Taylor was worked hard today during Utah's pro day. All the attention though was considered a good thing as the general thought of the day was Taylor continues to improve his stock.
He had 41 reps on the bench press (225 pounds), an improvement from the 33 he made at the combine. Anything above 30 is considered very good.
Bill Callahan, the former Oakland Raiders coach who is an assistant now with the New York Jets, was among the coaches getting an eyeful of Taylor.
Corner Brandon Burton, who decided to leave school a year early, said he has no regrets over his decision despite the uncertainty of the league's status next year with a lockout possible.
"I talked with everyone and my coaches supported me and I think it was the right thing to do," he said.
He was happy with his efforts Tuesday and felt his 40 time was better than the 4.5 at the combine.
"I'm comfortable here and feel at home," said Burton, who did much of his training in Arizona. "It's good to be back and come and see the other players."
The biggest disappointment on the day had to be for defensive back Justin Taplin-Ross, who injured his left leg during a drill and had to be helped off the field. Luckily the injury wasn't thought to be serious.
Aaron Alford, who has coached the running backs for the last two years and is now director of high school relations, ran pro day and said about 20 scouts attended.
"All of the guys did a great job and we had a good turnout," he said.&n
