Expect Utes to bring their 'rain' game

Another day, another downpour here in Las Vegas. The weather here has been crazy this week and is expected to be at some of its worst today (if you believe weather forecasters). Much of the area is under flash flood warnings and heavy rains are expected throughout the day.

If you are going to the bowl game, come prepared with all the rain gear you can get.

Coaches and players from both sides insist the rain won't affect one team or another, but I have to think it will play into Utah's hands since the Utes plan to run the ball more with Terrance Cain as quarterback.

According to the Idaho Statesman, Boise State has tweaked its linebacker rotation for the game after giving up a lot of yardage on the ground against Nevada and Utah State, games in which key player Byron Hout didn't play. Anyone else think the Utes might test the heart of the Boise State defense, much like they did against Air Force when they rushed 51 times for 179 yards?

This could be a game in which senior backs Eddie Wide and Matt Asiata get to go out with a bang.

I know teams love to say that weather is the same for both and therefore doesn't give one team an advantage over the other, but if it's raining tonight like it is now, it will make it a challenge for Boise State quarterback Kellen Moore and his receivers to connect as effectively as they have in the past. Guess we get to see just how good their grips are on their gloves.

Asked about Cain during Tuesday's press conference, Boise State coach Chris Petersen said Cain was a good player who is plenty dangerous.

"You recruit to your style of offense and he certainly fits their offense," he said. "His record backs that up. When you have a senior quarterback as a backup who has won a lot of games, those guys have a lot of confidence."
