It's decided. Utah State will be going for its first-round ever win in the Mountain West conference tournament against a team it has already beaten twice this season.
The Aggies take on Colorado State at 2 p.m. MT at Thomas and Mack Center on Wednesday, by virtue of the Rams' 83-75 loss to Wyoming on Saturday afternoon. Utah State swept the Rams during the regular season, most recently on the road in a 71-62 win. The game will be streamed online over the Mountain West Network.
The Aggies went 5-4 to finish out the back end of Mountain West play, and now have a No. 8 seed in the conference tournament. The game will again pit former Utah State coach Larry Eustachy against former Colorado State coach Stew Morrill.
In the two games, the Aggies shot combined 44.3 percent from the field while smothering the Rams defensively. In the first game, Colorado State scored only 50 points. In the second, the Rams were held to 15 first-half points. Preston Medlin was a standout performer in each game, averaging 15.0 points and 6.5 assists.
The winner of the game goes on to face the No. 1 overall seed the next day. As of Saturday afternoon, that result was still to be decided in the game between New Mexico and San Diego State.
