Even though Tay Glover-Wright said he felt "back at home" on the offensive side of the ball, he clearly needed a little time to tune up.

Coming in at quarterback against New Mexico, the senior cornerback, returner and basically do-it-all weapon for the Aggies was fine running the ball, but it was his hands that were the problem. On his first rush of the game, he lost a fumble that had to be recovered by Tyler Larsen.

"Getting the game time experience was important," he said. "I just need to put that ball away. I forget that I can't just switch it around in my hands like I do in practice when they don't touch me."

Shaking off the early mistake, Glover-Wright went on to finish with 36 yards on the ground in his first appearance at quarterback since last season. His one drive took up more than seven-and-a-half minutes and chewed up 75 yards - perfect for a team that was up big in the third quarter and looking to burn time.

Matt Wells didn't talk much about why Glover-Wright went in against New Mexico, saying the decision was "just part of our scheme." But perhaps the call is self evident: If he can lead the offense on more time-consuming drives, it could be an ideal way to close out games.

"That drive, I believe it was a lot of time," he said. "They probably just wanted to take off some time, run off the clock."

Glover-Wright got a look last season as a backup quarterback after Adam Kennedy was injured, but wasn't initially seen this season as a part of the offense with more pressing duties as a corner. He took a few reps over the summer, but hadn't done much with the offense until recent weeks.

He hasn't expected too much from that role this year, and that's probably how he'll continue to handle it. If the Aggies put him in again, he'll be pleasantly surprised.

"If I don't play quarterback again, it won't kill me," he said. "I've had fun with it, I want to be included more, but I'll be OK. I did get one full drive in this season."
