The Utah State men's basketball team usually closes its doors for its practices, but this year, fans will have a chance to see the Aggies before they take the floor against another squad.
Utah State announced that the team will play an intra-squad scrimmage at 5:30 p.m. on Thursday, Oct. 17. The season sneak peek at the Dee Glen Smith Spectrum will consist of four 10-minute sessions with mixed rosters, and it will be the only open practice for the public (and media).
The Aggies have already played one intra-squad scrimmage this year, in a closed session on Saturday. Freshman Jalen Moore led all scorers with 19 points and 10 rebounds. Jarred Shaw also had a double-double with 12 points and 12 boards, while Preston Medlin and Spencer Butterfield also knocked back 16 points.
All four are expected to be a major part of the Aggies' season this year as the team plays its first year in the Mountain West. Shaw and Butterfield were all-WAC performers last season, and Medlin was leading the team in scoring before he was injured. Utah State also returns key contributors in guards Marcel Davis and TeNale Roland, forward Danny Berger and center Jordan Stone. In addition to Moore, a Sky View product who is the son of Aggie great Jimmy Moore, Utah State will have several newcomers including Southern Utah transfer Kyle Davis.
The scrimmage will be the only open session before Utah State's first exhibition, an Oct. 25 match-up with Central Methodist. Utah State will also host Adams State on Nov. 1 before opening the year with USC at the Spectrum. Utah State was picked to finish fifth in the Mountain West preseason poll.
