The federal government shutdown has put military academies' athletics travel schedules on temporary lockdown, putting two Utah State games up in the air this weekend.

Officially, Utah State athletics has said it will wait until Wednesday to announce if Friday soccer match and a Saturday women's volleyball match against Air Force in Logan will go on as planned. But those contests appear to be in serious doubt after the Falcons made an announcement Tuesday that its teams will not travel for intercollegiate athletics.

The school release goes on to say Air Force is attempting to play home games, make up as many games as possible, and is working with Mountain West officials to do so.

The Colorado Springs Gazette reported Tuesday that Air Force was operating under the assumption that it would not be playing a football game against Navy this weekend, which doesn't bode well for its other sports. Much of the sports department is on mandatory furlough as a part of the shutdown.

Mountain West volleyball spokeswoman Judy Wilson said there was no definitive plan yet for changes to the week.

"We're on top of it, we're just waiting to hear from Air Force and see what they can do," she said.

Utah State athletics is likely to make a definitive statement Wednesday morning on whether the games will be played, sports information officials Zach Fisher and Kara Fisher confirmed.

The football team has already played at Air Force, as has men's golf. But soccer and volleyball have yet to play the Falcons. Soccer's only match-up with Air Force is this weekend, but the volleyball team is scheduled to visit Colorado Springs on Nov. 7.
