While the Aggies still in Logan are getting in fighting shape for the season, a number of Utah State rookies are still battling their way onto NFL rosters this fall.
Most teams played their first preseason games this week, and a few of Utah State's most recent grads have stood out:
• Will Davis is having a strong camp with the Miami Dolphins, thanks to the interception skills that made him stick out as an Aggie. He picked off a pass from Mike Kafka in his second preseason game, his first interception in live NFL action. He's already made a name for himself as a ballhawk in camp, and there's some rumblings that he could have a better year than fellow rookie corner Jamar Taylor.
• Kerwynn Williams may not be leading the running back depth chart, but he led the Indianapolis Colts with 21 yards rushing in the preseason opener, and added a pair of catches for five yards. His biggest asset to the team might be his return skills: He took five kickoffs, averaging 17 yards per return. A bobble on one of them was one of his few mistakes.
• Chuck Jacobs caught a pair of passes for 27 yards debuting with the San Francisco 49ers as an undrafted free agent. He's had at least a few good days in camp by showing his receiving ability.
• Al Lapuaho had a tackle in the preseason for the St. Louis Rams. He's trying to work his way back from a hand injury that kept him out of camp early on.
