Utah State has announced the format for its spring football game at 2 p.m. on Saturday, pitting the Blue team (offense) against the White team (defense).

It's the Aggies' own spin on the spring exhibition, a continuation of the battle throughout spring camp. Fans will see two 15-minute quarters with normal clock rules, followed by two 10-minute running clock quarters, according to a school news release.

The offense will be looking for the end zone, but in this format, both squads have different ways to score.

Aside from the standard touchdown, extra points and field goals, the offense will also score two points for a run of 15 or more yards and a completed pass of 20 or more yards. On every first down, the offense will get one point.

But the defense can strike back on the scoreboard as well: Turnovers will net them five points, three-and-outs are three points, a blocked field goal is three points, and a sack, scoreless drive or a tackle for a loss is two points. Failed extra points and conversions will add to the defense's score as well. The White team will also be able to score on touchdowns, extra points and safeties.

All possessions will start at the 25-yard line - no kickoffs. In the final two minutes of the fourth quarter, regular clock management resumes.

Utah State is expecting several thousand fans to get their first glimpse of the team since last December, when the Aggies wrapped up an 11-2 season with a win at the Idaho Potato Bowl.

The spring game will be one draw of a very busy day for Utah State athletics. The school plans to hold the HURD Bowl, a student football tournament, at 10 a.m. The ticket office will open at noon, and concessions and the team store opens at 1 p.m.

On the campus, the track team will be hosting a meet (11:45 a.m.), the women's tennis team is playing Idaho (10 a.m.), and the softball team is playing Louisiana Tech (1 p.m.).

If you can't be in Logan on Saturday, the school is streaming the game at this link.
