WR Ronald Butler commits to Utah State football

You could say Utah State was perfect last weekend.

When receiver Ronald Butler called to commit to the Aggies this week, all seven football recruits who visited Logan on the weekend January 18-20 had pledged, at one time or another, to join the program.

Butler, a native of New Jersey who spent the last two seasons at Contra Costa College, could be an impact player in next year's class. He's a 5-foot-11 fleet-footed playmaker who sees himself as a "perfect" fit in Utah State's offense.

"My whole thing was how the program fit me, and I think this offense is right for me," Butler said in an interview with the Tribune. "I'm just a playmaker. Whatever you need, a first down, a touchdown. I'll just go up for the ball."

Butler is expected to compete for one of the starting receiver jobs next year after Utah State graduates three of its four top guys. At Contra Costa last season, he had 55 receptions for 870 yards and 13 touchdowns. He has a highlight film on Hudl available for viewing.

On his visit, Butler said he noticed how big a role junior college players occupied on the team. That culture, in addition to a good graduating percentage, was a huge draw for him.

"A lot of guy I met went to junior college, and they know what it's like, they knew what I was talking about," Butler said. "Excited is not even the word - I can't wait to get up there."
