Jordan Brown starts school on Monday, his first day of class since his LDS Church mission to Santiago, Chile for the last two years.

But he won't be returning to BYU, where he first thought he might play football.

The former star quarterback from Alta will join Utah State this spring, and he's excited to truly begin his college career in Logan.

"The growth in the program and the style of the offense are the main things," Brown says. "I wanted to be an Aggie, and I was able to come to an agreement with the coaching staff."

A 6-foot-3 passer, Brown threw for 2,850 yards and 24 touchdowns as the Hawks' quarterback in 2009, leading Alta to a semifinal berth in the 5A football playoffs. Brown was a multi-faceted athlete at Alta, where he also helped lead the basketball team to a state championship.

Brown originally grayshirted at BYU, so he'll have five more years of eligibility. He said he was excited to get into a spread system which resembles the one he ran in high school.

He said he had been throwing for the last month since he returned from his mission, ready to try to work his way up the depth chart.

"Coach Wells is a winner, so I'm not to worried about the program," Brown said. "It's the kind of offense I got used to at Alta. So I'm just going to have to keep attacking."

Utah State has a number of quarterbacks already on its roster, including Chuckie Keeton, Adam Kennedy, Daniel Wray, Mike Chislock, Jeff Manning and Craig Harrison. Former Logan quarterback D.J. Nelson is on his LDS Church Mission.
