USU Hoops - Davis rushed to the emergency room

Utah State freshman point guard Marcel Davis is at home resting after being taken to the Emergency Room with severe stomach pain, his father Rodney told The Salt Lake Tribune on Tuesday.

Davis has an appointment with a surgeon tomorrow. Doctors don't know for sure, but they think his appendix is the source of the discomfort. If so, Davis will have it removed.

That would make him the second freshman to have such a procedure at Utah State in the last three months. His good friend and teammate from Amercian Fork High School, Quincy Bair, is the other.

Davis has turned heads as an Aggie. At this point, he could become the first freshman to start a regular-season game since Tyler Newbold and Tai Wesley accomplished the feat six years ago. At minimum, Davis, nicknamed Doc, looks like he will receive significant time.

At 6-foot-3, Davis was the best pure high school point guard in the state last year, with Lone Peak's Nick Emery being the best all-around guard. Davis' game, at least in workouts, sources say, has translated to college basketball. Those close to the program say that he's a jump shot away from potentially being an impact player at the collegiate level. He is already one of the best passers on the team.
