USU Football: Webb, Sutera, walk-ons no more

Wide receiver Cam Webb and safety Frankie Sutera both experience the dream of every walk-on in a Division I college football program on Friday morning - They were both awarded full scholarships.

Both have made strides on the depth chart in recent seasons. Sutera, out of Juan Diego High, was a scout team player, but will play back-up safety this season.

Webb, out of Mountain Crest High, has been so good in camp that he's a candidate as a starter. He has emerged as a possession receiver in the mold of Eric Moats. Webb may have been the best player in Wednesday night's scrimmage, making eight catches for 101 yards.

"He's just been so good so far," Offensive coordinator Matt Wells told The Tribune. "Cam is always in the right place at the right time, and he always makes the right block. He's certainly a candidate to crack the top four wide recievers."

Webb lost 20 pounds between the end of last season and the beginning of spring practice. He's gotten stronger, and quicker. He's made almost every catch whenever he's been targeted by Chuckie Keeton or Adam Kennedy.
