Utah State has confirmed that Cade Cowdin, a 6-foot-2 230 pound linebacker from St. George, has transferred from Oregon State and will play in Logan this year.
Cowdin's first day in Logan was Friday, just in time to suit up and attend fall camp. With Parker Hausknecht leaving the program, Cowdin's presence will lend depth and talent to the Aggies.
At Oregon State, Cowdin was second on the depth chart following spring practice. However, he left the Beavers early in the summer.
Coming out of junior college, Cowdin had offers from UCLA, Iowa State, South Florida and Miami (Fla). He will immediately be eligible and compete for playing time.
For a linebacking core that lost Maurice Alexander as well as Hausknecht in addition to the expected losses of Kyle Gallagher and Bobby Wagner, Cowdin's talent and experience is welcome and sorely needed. He still doesn't know the playbook, but he's been immediately thrown into the fire during the first two practices.
