USU Hoops: Medlin takes on more of the load
Published on Jan 30, 2012 06:50PM

This blog was speaking to a Utah State assistant following Saturday night’s Aggie win over San Jose State concerning Preston Medlin.

This is what the coach had to say about USU’s starting shooting guard.

“To think, we have him for two more years.”

Indeed.

Preston Medlin won the WAC player of the week on Monday. Beyond that, however, is what he has started to become over the past month.

That would be a full-throttle go-to guy. Medlin has made jumpers, he has created off the dribble, he has gotten into transition and thrown down dunks, he has made Brockeith Pane a better player because of the attention he draws.

In short, if Utah State wants to make a run through the conference tournament, Medlin will be the one to carry the Aggies.

Right now, if this blog had a vote, Medlin would be the lone Utah State player worthy of first team all-conference status.

He has won every matchup against every elite shooting guard he’s played against. Hawaii’s Zane Johnson had a miserable time against him, as did some of the other great shooters in the league.

Medlin is fast developing into the best perimeter player Utah State has seen since Jaycee Carroll.

And to think. He’s only a sophomore.
