If you read this blog last year, you would know that I've been extremely critical of New Mexico State's basketball program at times.

This time, I must commend Marvin Menzies.

This week, NMSU made the decision to redshirt Wendell McKines, one of the best power forwards in the WAC, due to a bum foot. They could've easily rushed him back in time to stay in the conference title race. But it was the right thing to do in every way.

Next year, the Aggies can be one of the best teams in the conference because of McKines. Next year, McKines can have a senior season without injury, and next year they wouldn't have to think about playing at small forward. Sure, McKines could come back, but it wouldn't be fair to him to have a sawed off senior season. So sitting him was definitely the right thing to do.

Menzies, with that decision, will sacrifice some wins, no doubt. But in the long run, thinking about the health and the overall well being of his player deserves a few kudos.
