This weekend on TV: BYU and USU kick off the football season

The first weekend of the college football season continues with a couple of big games featuring local teams on national networks.

First up is BYU at Connecticut (Friday, 5 p.m., ESPN). And then, on Sunday - yes, Sunday - it's Utah State at Tennessee (5 p.m., SEC Network).

The Cougars are favored to beat the Huskies. And, while the Aggies are an underdog to the Volunteers, they're not a big underdog. A lot of the "experts" are picking USU to pull the upset.

Friday on TV ...

Women's college soccer (5 p.m., SEC Network): BYU at Tennessee

High school football: Jordan at East (7 p.m., Ch. 14); Toole at Grantsville (7 p.m., KMYU)

American Masters (8 p.m., PBS/Ch. 7): A profile of photographer Dorothea Lange (1895-1965), who captured iconic images of the Great Depression, Dust Bowl and WWII Japanese-American internment camps.

The Knick (10 p.m., Cinemax): There's a typhoid outbreak.

Saturday on TV ...

Doctor Who (6:15 p.m., BBC America): A Dalek fleet surrounds a rebel ship.

Unforgettable (7 p.m., CBS/Ch. 2): A corporate CEO is murdered.

Outlander (7, 8 and 9 p.m., Starz): Claire plots her escape.

Reckless (8 p.m., CBS/Ch. 2): Terry considers turning his back on Lee Anne when he's asked to testify against her.

Intruders (8 p.m., BBC America): Jack searches for Amy in Seattle.

MLS (8:30 p.m., Ch. 30): Real Salt Lake at San Jose Earthquakes

Cedar Cove (9 p.m., AMC): A woman from Jack's past appears.

Hell On Wheels (10 p.m., AMC): A stranger threatens Cullen's family.

Sunday on TV ...
