Thursday on TV: 'Project Runway' is really annoying me

OK, I'm willing to admit that I'm a fan of Project Runway (7 p.m., Lifetime). I was mocking my daughter for watching it a few years ago, and she got me to sit down and watch it with her.

Weirdly enough, I was hooked.

After last week's Season 13 premiere, I'm sort of tempted to give up on the show for a couple of reasons:

First, the winning dress last week was hideous. I could go to a thrift store, rip the bottom off a dress, cut the top of the sleeves open and stain it and I'd have something close to what the judges chose.

I was reminded of when mentor Tim Gunn referred to the "crack-smoking judges" a few seasons ago.

I get that I don't understand fashion, but I do understand ugly.

And, second, I'm getting a little tired of how mean the judges are. There's a lot to criticize and, yes, it's part of the show. But watching Nina Garcia devastate contestants with made-for-TV zingers is grating on me.

This is an empty threat, of course. I'll continue watching. And I'll have a lot of fun complaining about and criticizing the show.
