From left, Keith Urban, Jennifer Lopez, and Harry Connick Jr. are seen during the panel of "American Idol" at the FOX Winter 2014 TCA, on Monday, Jan. 13, 2014, at the Langham Hotel in Pasadena, Calif. The producers of the show say the new season includes changes to freshen it, including an expanded song list for contestants. Executive producer Per Blankens said Monday, Jan. 13, 2014, that the show's song list, which has included a fair share of golden oldies, will add more current tunes that the young contestants can relate to. Thursday on TV: My hotel neighbor, Harry Connick Jr., is great on 'Idol'

Auditions continue on American Idol (7 p.m., Fox/Ch. 13). And it's worth repeating - I actually really enjoyed the two-hour season premiere. And I haven't enjoyed watching this show in years. Many years.

Harry Connick Jr. is fantastic as the newest "Idol" judge. He's not just funny and charming, but he really knows what he's talking about. And the chemistry among Connick, Jennifer Lopez and Keith Urban is really good.
