The 10 best TV shows of 2013: A scene from “Broadchurch.”
Wednesday on TV: 'Broadchurch' ends brilliantly; Colton goes crazy on 'Survivor'

Season 1 of Broadchurch (8 p.m., BBC America) comes to an end and Danny's killer is revealed - but that's not the end of the story.

If this was an American drama, solving the crime would be the end of the story. But this is a British drama, so the revelation comes rather early in the episode and then the narrative deals with the aftermath.

It's shattering stuff. A great show that will stick in your mind long after it's over.

Over on Survivor (7 p.m., CBS/Ch. 2) - where Utahns Tyson Apostol and Rachel Foulger are competing - all those crocodile tears Colton shed last week are proven to be just that as he returns to his nasty, mean-spirited, manipulative ways.

Elsewhere on TV ...

The Middle (7 p.m., ABC/Ch. 4): The whole family accompanies Axl when he head off to college. (Season premiere)

The X Factor (7 p.m., Fox/Ch. 13): Auditions continue.

Back In the Game (7:30 p.m., ABC/Ch. 4): This new sitcom isn't a total loss, but it isn't particularly good. (Check out the review on this blog.)

Criminal Minds (8 p.m., CBS/Ch. 2): The team chases a killer to Arizona. (Season premiere)

Modern Family (8 and 8:30 p.m., ABC/Ch. 4): In back-to-back episodes, Phil and Claire try to spend some kid-free time; Luke and Manny start high school. (Season premiere)

Law & Order: SVU (8 p.m., NBC/Ch. 5): The squad searches for the missing Det. Benson. (Season premiere. And this is a two-hour episode.)

Capture (8 p.m., CW/Ch. 30): One team wins $250,000 in the season finale.

It's Always Sunny in Philadelphia (8 p.m., FXX): After an investment goes bad, the gang tries to cut their losses.

CSI (9 p.m., CBS/Ch. 2): The narrative picks up where last May's cliffhanger left off - Morgan and Ellie Brass have been kidnapped by a killer. (Season premiere)

Nashville (9 p.m., ABC/Ch. 4): Did Rayna survive the accident in the Season 1 cliffhanger? Do you think they're going to kill off the character played by Connie Britton, the star of the show? (Season premiere)
