Review: No spoilers here, but 'Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D.' premiere is really good

Marvel and ABC have gone out of their way to keep the wraps on "Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D," and I'm not going to spoil any of the surprises.

I'm not going to give anything away at all about the pilot episode (Tuesday, 7 p.m., Ch. 4) ... except to tell you that I really liked it. And I had pretty high expectations for this show that picks up its narrative in a world that just went through the events in the blockbuster movie "The Avengers."

"S.H.I.E.L.D." is not perfect. There are characters that need development. But this is a TV series, not a movie, so there's time.

And I was highly entertained when I saw the "S.H.I.E.L.D." pilot last month. I laughed out loud several times - sometimes because the show was funny, and sometimes just because I was delighted by what I was seeing.

Don't expect "The Avengers," because "Agents of "S.H.I.E.L.D." is not that movie. But it's a very promising start to a series set in the Marvel universe.

I can't wait to see Episode 2.
