This weekend on TV: Something always happens at the VMAs

It's time once again for the MTV Video Music Awards (Sunday, 7 p.m., MTV, MTV2 and Logo), which are utterly meaningless but always have some cool performances and generally have some sort of (usually manufactured) controversy.

Lady Gaga, Kanye West, Justin Timberlake and Bruno Mars are scheduled to perform. And there's a rumor that 'N Sync will reunite.

Masterpiece Mystery! (8 p.m., PBS/Ch. 7): In "Silk," Martha Costello takes on challenging cases in an effort to boost her chances of becoming Queen's Counsel.
