Monday at the Olympics: USA out for water polo revenge
Four years ago, the U.S. men's water polo team, ranked No. 9 in the world, battled its way to the finals. The Americans hung in there, keeping it close until the final quarter against two-time defending Olympic champions Hungary, but lost 14-10 to take home the silver medal.
The Americans face the three-time defending Olympic champion Hungarians in a rematch today. (9:30-10:30 a.m., NBC/Ch. 5)
- The American women's soccer team is one game away from the gold-medal final. Team USA takes on Canada in today's second semifinal (12:45-2:45 p.m., NBCSN/NBC soccer channel). It's France vs. Japan in the other semifinal(10-11:45 a.m., NBCSN/NBC soccer channel)
- Americans Chris Colwill and Troy Dumais - the first American since Greg Louganis to compete at four Olympics - compete in the finals of springboard diving (NBC primetime, 7-11 p.m., Ch. 5)
- American teams are in action vs. South Africa in women's field hockey (3:45-5:15 a.m.); vs. Tunisia in men's volleyball (2-3:15 p.m., NBC/Ch. 5); and vs. Argentina in men's basketball (3:15-5:15 p.m., NBCSN/NBC basketball channel)
NBC primetime (7-11 p.m., Ch. 5):Individual gold-medal finals in gymnastics - men's still rings and vault, women's uneven bars; track and field gold-medal finals in the men's 400m and 400m hurdles, women's pole vault; beach volleyball quarterfinals; men's diving springboard qualifying; gold-medal finals in cycling.
