"Survivor: One World" got off to a promising start on Wednesday, with a bit of input from Utahn Jonas Otsuji, who easily advanced to Episode 2.

The twist this season is that, after dividing the 18 contestants into two tribes - one all-male and one all-female - the two learned they're sharing the same camp. Well, not exactly sharing.

"It doesn't look like one world to me, bro," Jonas said. "It looks like their world and our world."

The dynamic is certainly interesting. And the rivalries are immediate. Which makes for great TV.

The Big Event in Episode 1 was the immunity challenge. Which rather quickly went awry.

The challenge began with contestants jumping from a tall platform into a net. Host Jeff Probst told them - repeatedly - to cross their arms across their chests and land on their backs. Despite that warning, several contestants landed awkwardly.

Including Kourtney Moon, who stuck her arm out and injured her wrist. She had to leave the challenge to receive medical attention, and the men were given the choice of accepting the victory by forfeit or sitting one of their number out.

The men took the forfeit. The women whined and moaned about how unfair it was.

It was ridiculous. This is a game. The men probably would have won the challenge anyway - they were ahead - but why risk having to send one of your people home? And the men were right when they pointed out that, if the situations were reversed, it's unlikely the women would have done anything different.

It's fascinating that, even in its 24th season, contestants act so predictably. The women insisted on making all this personal, ignoring that it's a game. And that's a big reason "Survivor" remains so watchable.

At any rate, it turned out that Kourtney did indeed break her wrist. In several places, according to Probst, requiring surgery. So she was gone from the game, and the women didn't have to vote anyone else out.

All of the men - including Jonas - were safe.

"Survivor: One World" continues Wednesday, Feb. 22., at 7 p.m. on CBS/Ch. 2.
