Monday on TV: "The Voice" is off and running

The Voice (7 p.m., NBC/Ch. 5) is back for its second season - it actually returned Sunday night after the Super Bowl - and, frankly, it's hard to get too excited.

This was a show that was supposed to be so different from "American Idol." But once it got past the early "blind auditions" stage, it was just another talent show.

And combining the roles of judge and coach just led to judges who were cloying and sickeningly sweet.

And then there's the fact that not only will Season 2 run longer than Season 1, but it will feature a whole lot more two-hour episodes. Because too many TV execs fail to realize that one hour of an OK show may be palatable but two hours can be horrible.

Elsewhere on TV ...
