That Zachary Quinto came out in an interview with New York Magazine isn't exactly huge news. It wasn't a big secret that the former "Heroes" star/Mr. Spock 2.0 is gay.
And, of course, it doesn't matter. It doesn't change him as an actor. And it's not really anybody's business.
If you want to tell people about your sexual preference it's entirely up to you. Other people are making a big deal out of it; Quinto himself almost off-handedly mentioned that he's gay in the interview.
I'm writing about it for one reason and one reason alone. My good friend, Kerry Jackson - the X-96 Radio from Hell star who is kind enough to let me participate as a panelist on the Geekshow Podcast - has doubted me for years when I told him that Quinto is gay.
So ... told you so.
Yes, I know this makes me extraordinarily immature. But then so does my oft-repeated line on the Geekshow Podcast:
Clearly, the 2009 "Star Trek" film was in an alternate timeline/reality from the original. In the J.J. Abrams movie, Sulu is straight and Spock is gay.
