A few readers have wondered what became of Dan Pope, the former KSL weathercaster who hasn't been seen on Ch. 5 for some time.

There's no big mystery. His contract wasn't renewed. He's operating a meteorology consulting firm - Dan Pope Weather Consulting - and looking for a new job at a television station.

It's a sign of the times. KSL isn't the only media outlet cutting costs.

It's no fun when it happens to you, however. (Let me tell you ...) And this is the second time it's happened to Pope. He was let go in a round or cost-cutting at KTVX-Ch. 4 back in 2007 after he'd been at that station for 14 years.

Here's hoping he lands the job he's looking for soon ...
