"Big Sur" takes us to the waning days of the Beat Generation, and the final days of Jack Kerouac.

The movie – which debuts at the 2013 Sundance Film Festival – shows Kerouac (played by European star Jean-Marc Barr) looking back on a life damaged by booze and drugs, with his early success with "On the Road" a dim memory. He retreats to a fog-enshrouded cabin in the Big Sur woods, facing his demons.

Directed by Michael Polish (who directed "Twin Falls Idaho," "The Astronaut Farmer" and other films with his brother Mark), "Big Sur" also stars Josh Lucas, Kate Bosworth, Anthony Edwards, Henry Thomas and Stana Katic.

"Big Sur" plays in the Premieres section of the 2013 Sundance Film Festival.
