At the premiere of her film "Celeste and Jesse Forever" actor Rashida Jones explained how she came to write her first screenplay:
"I wrote the story with Will McCormack, who's my best friend. And we wanted to write something that felt like a modern take on relationships and maybe things that would hopefully hit home. Having a relationship with somebody who's kind of like your first love, you believe you're gonna be together forever and it doesn't work out because you change, and what do you do? Do you stay friends? Or can you stay friends and how does that happen?"Her advice for real-life couples like Celeste and Jesse:
"Elijah's [Wood] character says in the movie, 'you're only done when you're done,' you know, I think you kind of need to take some time apart before you try to stay friends."
