“The Orator” is billed as the first movie to be produced by the island of Samoa, and it is New Zealand’s entry for the foreign-language Oscar.
The movie centers on Saili (Fa’afiaula Sagote), a little person and taro farmer living with his wife and stepdaughter. When his family plantation is threatened and he is denied his father’s status as chief, Saili must stand up to defend his family and his land.
“The Orator” screens in the Spotlight section of the 2012 Sundance Film Festival.
