I spoke to the incredibly talented Bobby Long the other day. His debut album "A Winter Tale" comes out Feb. 1, and is a collection that heralds the arrival of a true folk troubadour in the mold of an early Bruce Springsteen and Leonard Cohen.
Long is a Englishman now living in New York City. He studied film music at university, so he is keen on being here. "It will be amazing to be at the festival," he said. "I am aware of how significant [the Sundance Film Festival] is. I'm excited to be a part of it."
Film actually has a lot to do with Long's ascent. in England, he was good friends with Robert Pattinson (and they are still good friends), and when Pattinson was cast as Edward in the "Twlight" saga, a song that Pattinson and Long wrote was included on the blockbuster-selling soundtrack to the first "Twilight" film.
For four decades, people have thrown around the term "The New Dylan," associating it with hundreds of artists whose main accompanient is the acoustic guitar and a harmonica. It doesn't faze Long. "It's better to be compared to Dylan than Bananarama," he said.
