Time to catch up on some local recruiting news.
Spanish Fork High pitcher Hayden Nielsen has committed to play baseball for BYU. Nielsen will sign with the Cougars during the early signing period in November, according to the Provo Daily Herald.
The senior plays shortstop for the Dons when he is not pitching, and had a 2.11 earned run average last year. At the plate, he hit around .400.
Nielsen also doubles as Spanish Fork's starting quarterback and a guard on the basketball team.
He threw for close to 2,500 and 22 TDs last season as a junior.

In basketball recruiting news, former Bonneville High star Scott Sellers has signed at Wenatchee Valley College in Washington, a junior college. He spent last year at Central Wyoming Community College.
Meanwhile former Northridge star Scott Odekirk has signed to play at Mount Marty College in Yankton, South Dakota, an NAIA school. He played at Southwestern Oregon CC last year.
And former Christian Heritage basketball player Tyler Cooper has signed to play at Metro State College in Denver. Cooper played last year at Santa Ana College.

Springville High inside linebacker Caleb McCray is seeing his recruiting heat up after a strong start to the 2011 season. McCray has received an offer from Dixie State College, and has drawn the interest of Brown, Dartmouth and Princeton, Ivy League schools which do not hand out athletic scholarships. He is also drawing interest from Southern Utah University, Northern Arizona and Washington State.
