Basketball: BYU recruiting target Calaen Robinson commits to ASU

A 6-foot-3 point guard from Arizona who was drawing quite a bit of interest from BYU has committed to Arizona State.

Calaen Robinson, who will be a senior at Corona Del Sol High in Arizona this season, picked the Sun Devils earlier this week, according to Josh Gershon of Scout.com.

Robinson was named one of Scout.com's top 10 prospects in the West last May, landing at No. 9.

"They've been on me. I've been talking to coach [Tim] LaComb a lot. He's been catching up with what I have been doing and stuff," Robinson told the website in May when asked about BYU.

A source confirmed that BYU had offered Robinson a scholarship. He was also drawing interest from St. Mary's, Weber State, UNLV, Northern Arizona and others.

Robinson said he committed because ASU "is a good fit for me. It is close to home so I will be close to my family. My mom wanted me to go to ASU and all my friends will be able to see me play."

What is known is that BYU's prime recruiting target from the class of 2012 remains West Jordan High's Jordan Loveridge. Loveridge recently received scholarship offers from Colorado and San Diego and now has nine invitations.
