National organizations continue to recognize Utah high school athletes and teams.

Porter Gustin, who plays quarterback and linebacker for the Salem Hills football team, has been selected to play in the 2015 U.S. Army All-American Bowl January 3 at San Antonio's Alamo Dome. He is among 90 players selected for the game. The 6-foot-5, 240-pounder also plays baseball and basketball for the Utah County school. U.S. Army officials will present him with his honorary jersey for the game at a school assembly next Wednesday at 10 a.m.

This week, the American Volleyball Coaches Association named Davis' Kenzi Nicol as Utah Volleyball Player of the Week. The 5-foot-9 senior setter had 50 assists, three kills, 15 digs, two aces and three blocks for the Darts.

The National Soccer Coaches Association of America's Utah player of the week is Riverton fullback Jordyn Goodrich. The senior has two goals and five assists this season and has anchored the Silverwolves strong defense, which has given up 26 goals this year on the way to a 13-3-1 record. Riverton shut out Taylorsville Tuesday in the first round of the Class 5A soccer tournament.

In prep football, Bingham continues to be ranked nationally, the the Miners dropped a spot in the MaxPreps composite rankings to 14 despite an impressive victory over Jordan last Friday. The Miners are ranked 10th by USA Today, 15th in MaxPreps Xcellent 25, 18th by PrepNation and 22 by MaxPreps computer.
