Some notes about high school football:
• Prep football stat expert George Felt reports that Pine View kicker Ethan Baer tied the state record for field goals made in a game by kicking five in the Panthers' 29-14 win over Hurricane. Brian Smith (Mountain View) also hit five on Sept. 2, 2005.
• Bingham moved up three spots to No. 15 in MaxPreps Xcellent 25 football rankings this week after a convincing victory over Jordan Friday.
• Felt reports that Bountiful coach Larry Wall moved into a tie for third place in all-time coaching victories with Al Marshall, who coached at Beaver and Millard. Wall won his 229th game Friday.
• Another interesting bit of trivia from Felt. Which Utah football field has the highest elevation? The surprising answer is Monticello, at 7,118 feet. The lowest? Dixie at 2,630 feet.
• Finally, Felt reports on some great starts for some Utah prep teams. Corner Canyon and Woods Cross, who meet Thursday in a battle of unbeatens, are both off to their best-ever starts at 7-0. Taylorsville is 6-1 in football for the first time in its 34-year history. Union hasn't been better than 6-1 since 1983.
