Park City and Manti led the first day of the Class 3A and 2A golf tournaments at St. George as they tried to defend their state titles.

But, while Park City opened up a commanding lead, Manti found itself in a dogfight.

Park City, led by defending medalist Mitchell Schow's 69 and Drew Fleming's 71, took a commanding 289 to 305 lead over second-place Dixie at Sunbrook

Manti, meanwhile, held on to a 318-319 lead over Grand County at Southgate.

Layton Christian's Jace Stokes was the top individual with an impressive 68, He led Manti's Davis Hardy at 75 and Rowland Hall's Garrett Furubayshi who shot a 76.

The tournaments end play Thursday.
