The 104th annual BYU Invitational high school track and field meet is scheduled to begin at 8 a.m. Friday and Saturday with one of the largest fields of the year expected.

The meet, which began in 1911, combines Utah high school classifications with the larger schools competing in the 3A to 5A group and the smaller schools in the 1A to 2A group.

Davis will be back to defend its large school boys' and girls' championships, while the Richfield boys and North Sanpete girls will be defending their titles in the smaller classification.

The popular event is fun because schools from surrounding states such as Nevada, Wyoming and Idaho typically compete. The joining of the classifications gives athletes from smaller schools a chance to compete against larger schools.
