Saarel was honored as the Gatorade Utah boys track and field athlete of the year Thursday.

Saarel, who will compete at the University of Colorado next season, competed in the adidas Dream Mile in New York, which he won in 4 minutes, 2.72 seconds.

Saarel ends his high school career with the state record in the 800 (1:51.13), 1,600 (4:07.95) and 3,200 (8:49.08).
