Lone Peak might be the best high school basketball team Utah ever has seen, but its competition isn't ready to crown the Knights state champs yet.
"Not even close," American Fork forward Tyler Rawson said. "We're not afraid of them, but we do respect them. ... They've played well this season, but I think we could still have a chance at them."
American Fork and Lone Peak have faced off twice before — with Lone Peak winning handily both times. The Knights are 23-1 this year and haven't lost to a Utah team all season.
But after handing a thumping to West High on Monday, Weber junior Austin Tesch said the state tournament is not just a race for second place.
"I feel that nobody is unbeatable," he said. "I respect Lone Peak a lot. But if we play our game and go out there and ball, anything can happen."
He added, "I'd love to get a shot at it."
